The Queen of Gems from Lightning Ridge - New South Wales "Black" Opal
Explore the allure of New South Wales "black" opals, sourced from the legendary Lightning Ridge and surrounding fields of Grawin, Sheepwash and Glengarry. These gems show a play of colour like no other. The black background accents the colour bands of each individual opal. While they are called "black" opal they can be electric blue, green, multi coloured, and white but are known as "black" opals because of the distinctive host rock.

To find these captivating beauties you must travel hundreds of kilometres from the nearest inhabited centre. Intriguing in their patterns and colours, typically the opal is so deep within the host rock that they are left in partnership to be set as jewellery that is so distinctive and earthy.
